Natural Remedies for Gallbladder

Natural Remedies for Gallbladder

Natural Remedies for Gallbladder If you have gallbladder problems, your doctor has probably advised you to use some of the natural remedies for gallbladder. Natural treatment methods can never replace medical treatment; but still, these home remedies are very effective in relieving the symptoms of gallbladder disorders. Let us learn more about the most effective remedies for gallbladder disease.

Gallbladder Disease

The gallbladder is located on the right side of your abdomen, beneath the liver. The main function of this organ is to concentrate and store bile (1). This bitter fluid is produced in the liver, and it has an important role in breaking down the fats contained in the foods you eat. The gallbladder is not a vital organ and a person can live without it. However, it is always better to keep it!

Most gallbladder problems are caused by gallstones. Certain gallbladder disorders are not related to gallstones, although they can be accompanied by gallstones.

Gallbladder inflammation (cholecystitis) is one of the most common problems related to this organ (2). Gallstones (cholecystitis) affect many people today; however, this condition can remain undiagnosed for a long time, because some stones never cause any problems.

Small stones can be completely asymptomatic; they can be almost invisible. The problems usually come from larger stones that develop within the biliary tract. Large stones can easily create a blockage in the cystic duct, preventing the bile from passing to the intestines. This can cause bile to build up in the gallbladder.

The most common signs of gallbladder problems include:

  •  Abdominal pain/discomfort
  •  Vomiting
  •  Nausea
  •  Intolerance to fats
  •  Belching
  •  Bloating
  •  Diarrhea
    Jaundice (in severe cases)
  • How to Relieve Gallbladder Symptoms
Here are several things you can do to relieve the symptoms:
  • Don’t eat fatty foods! Ice cream, cheeses, fatty milk, starchy foods, and food items that contain gluten can make the symptoms worse.
  • Foods that contain preservatives, artificial sweeteners, and additives should be avoided.
  • Egg yolk should never be included in your meals because it contains a lot of cholesterol.
  • You can consume whole grains, green vegetables (except broccoli and cabbage)
  • Fatty meat should be avoided.
  • Do not eat foods that contain too much sugar or oil.
  • Fruits like cherries, blueberries, and tomatoes are good for you! You can also eat vegetables like spinach, bell peppers, and squash.
  • Eat more foods that contain fiber.
  • Do not drink alcoholic beverages and caffeinated drinks.
  • Avoid margarine, butter, fried foods, and highly processed foods.

Home Remedies

  • You can use some fiber supplements, but do not take any of these without your doctor’s knowledge!
  • Exercise can be helpful, but this will depend on your condition. You must consult your doctor about this before you start exercising.
  • Multivitamins that contain some antioxidants like vitamin E, vitamin C, and vitamin A can be helpful; however, your doctor will have to tell you what supplements to use.
  •  Herbs are considered very helpful; they will improve your overall health – but only if you use the right ones! You can buy herbs in various forms (tea, powder, or capsules), but you must consult your doctor before you start taking any herbal supplement. Here are several suggestions:
  • Milk thistle is a great home remedy. It is usually taken two or three times a day, as a part of gallbladder and liver detoxification. However, don’t take it without your doctor’s knowledge!
  • Green tea is known for its antioxidant properties. You can buy tea bags, or you can use leaves.
  • Turmeric can be helpful, but you should not use it if you use blood-thinning medications.
