Adenomyomatosis of Gallbladder

Adenomyomatosis of Gallbladder

Adenomyomatosis of the gallbladder can be defined as a benign form of hyperplastic cholecystitis. This condition is actually quite common. However, people who have adenomyomatosis can be completely unaware of it, for a long time; it is usually detected incidentally. Adenomyomatosis is never malignant and no special treatment is needed. It can be accompanied by cholelithiasis, but little is known about the connection between these two. Abdominal pain can be caused by adenomyomatosis, but many people do not have any symptoms.

Gallbladder Disorders

Adenomyomatosis can be classified as a type of gallbladder disorder, but this condition is not dangerous. There are several types of gallbladder disorders, and most of them are caused by gallstones. Gallstones are small formations that can develop anywhere in the biliary tract; however, most gallstones do not form inside the gallbladder. They actually develop in the liver, but they get into the gallbladder and stay there for a while.

Gallstones are composed of cholesterol, pigments, and some salts. They vary in size, shape, color, and composition. Small stones are also known as “the silent stones”. They usually show no symptoms at all, but once the stones grow large enough, they will start causing problems. Not all gallbladder problems are caused by gallstones. In fact, doctors still do not know enough about the causes of some gallbladder disorders.

Adenomyomatosis of Gallbladder

  • Adenomyomatosis is quite similar to cholesterol. Sometimes, it is very hard to tell whether a person is suffering from cholesterol or adenomyomatosis of the gallbladder.
  • Adenomyomatosis is benign; it is not threatening in any way. It can resemble a tumor, but it does not have any malignant tendencies.
  • Although this condition is not considered dangerous, it will be good to visit your doctor, just in case. Some other gallbladder disorders may resemble adenomyomatosis.
  • The exact cause of this condition is still unclear. However, if you have a family history of gallbladder disease, you may be prone to this condition.

Adenomyomatosis does not require any medical treatment, but you must go for regular checks. Some people can experience severe abdominal pain in the gallbladder area, which is a clear sign that something is wrong. Serious gallbladder problems are treated with gallbladder surgery.

Laparoscopic surgery is very safe, and complications are very rare. This surgery can even save a person’s life (in the case of gallbladder cancer, for example). If you experience any of the symptoms of gallbladder disease, visit your doctor and have your gallbladder examined. If diagnosed early enough, most gallbladder problems can be successfully treated, and various complications can be prevented.
