Gallbladder Contractions

Gallbladder Contractions

Gallbladder contractions are common in people who suffer from various diseases of this part of the body. There are some conditions in which the contractions can occur normally as well. The gallbladder could be digesting large amounts of fat that are in the body and this could be causing the contractions.

In this case, the contractions would be considered as normal. On the other hand, there are some problems that can cause the person to have these sudden contractions because of the presence of stones in the gall bladder. So, though the contractions could be normal, it cannot be always be thought to be a normal phenomenon. However, the person who is suffering from contractions should also remember that if pain accompanies them, then it is probably not normal.

Another reason for gallbladder contractions could be the presence of sludge in the organ. This is a mix of various things like Calcium salts, cholesterol and also bile. When these various things mix together, there is a high risk for the formation of stones.

When gallstones are formed contractions can occur because the bile ducts are blocked. The other instance when the contraction occurs is when the bile is released into the intestine. When a lot of fatty delicacies are consumed by a person, there has to be a lot of bile to digest this food. So, when the bile enters the intestine, it causes a contraction to occur.

So, the normal times at which the gallbladder contractions occur are when the bile is released into the intestine. Other than this even when there is no other abnormality present, a spasm can occur. This condition can occur in when there is a lot of sludge present inside the gall bladder.

When there are either multiple small stones, or a single large stone in the organ they all present with the same symptoms of abnormal contractions, or spasms. In each of these situations, there can be mild to severe pain associated with the spasm. When the spasm of the organ occurs, it causes more bile to be released, and this can cause mild pain.

Severe pain occurs when there are stones in the organ. So, unless the gallbladder contractions are accompanies by severe pain, there is nothing to worry about. On the other hand, if there are many such spasms with a much more severe pain, then the person has to get checked by a physician as soon as possible.
